Understanding Insurance terms
Making Sense of Common Insurance Jargon
Insurance terminology can often seem complex, but understanding the basics can make navigating your coverage easier. Here’s a quick guide to some common terms and what they mean for your care.
- Copay: A fixed amount you pay for a covered healthcare service, usually when you receive the service. Copay is an amount you pay whether your deductible has been met or not. Copays do not count towards your deductible.
- Deductible: The amount you pay for covered healthcare services before your insurance plan starts to pay. For example, if your deductible is $1,000, you need to pay that amount out-of-pocket before insurance helps cover costs.
- Out of Network: Services provided by therapists not contracted with your insurance provider. Costs may be higher, and sometimes you may need to pay upfront and submit for reimbursement.
- In Network: Services provided by therapists who are contracted with your insurance provider. Costs are typically lower and more predictable.
- Superbill: A detailed receipt of services if we are out-of-network with your insurance. You can submit this to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. It includes all the information your insurer needs to process the claim.
If you have any other questions or need further clarification, don't hesitate to reach out. We’re here to make the process as seamless and stress-free as possible.
